Warning: This blog post might not please everybody.

Let me begin by stating I am a HUGE Steve Austin fan and having him return for one more match at WrestleMania would be a dream come true since I never actually got to see him wrestle live and in person BUT why would he return??

Stone Cold Steve Austin must be asked thousands of times a day on twitter would he return for one last match and in his latest interview he has said the chances of an in ring return are “pretty damn slim” because it took him years to get over the withdrawals from not wrestling. He’s had countless surgeries on injuries and at the age of 48 he doesn’t see himself being able to go as well as he could in his prime. His last match was against The Rock at WrestleMania XIX so it’s been a decade since that night at Safeco Field.  He doesn’t exactly need the money and I don’t see one last match being in anyway a benefit to his legacy in professional wrestling.

The match everybody wants to see is Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk so lets address that possible feud:

Who would be the Heel and who would be the face?

What would be the reason behind the feud? (I know they have had their run ins but nothing concrete to start a feud)

If he came back and faced CM Punk what would the outcome be?

If he lost to CM Punk it would be another “Final Match” loss, if he won the feud would have no continuation and would just be another loss on the WrestleMania record of CM Punk who is supposed to be the present and future of the WWE. It has been talked about and reported about so much that if it did happen it could end up a huge flop. I think the fans should embrace the idea of two future legends headlining WrestleMania XXX.  (Punk vs. Bryan maybe? You know you want it.)

As much as it pains me to say I think maybe it’s time we let Stone Cold Steve Austin leave his in ring status as retired but of course we can still dream of hearing that glass shatter on the grandest stage of them all. WrestleMania XXX should be the biggest Mania ever and we expect a who’s who of the biggest names in wrestling history to be there so who knows this Hall Of Famer might have a change of heart and lace up those boots again or maybe we’ll see him involved in another storyline in somebody’s corner or as a special guest referee. Stone Cold will go down in history as arguably the biggest star professional wrestling has ever seen and a great in ring performer so why can’t we leave it at that………

Steve Austin we salute you sir.

“And that’s the bottom line Cause Stone Cold said so”
